Demelza's childhood could have been happier, but she was well off when all was said and done. Her father died when she was five, which resulted in her mother moving back to Cornwall. They moved into the house where her mother had grown up, and with the loss of one parent, Demelza gained two more -- her grandparents. It wasn't that bad; her grandmother taught her how to garden and her grandfather taught her how to fix up the old Ford they had when it broke down. She grew up as a well-rounded individual and with more love than most see with two parents.
Her letter came when she was ten, inviting her to enroll in Hogwarts that September. Her mother encouraged her to go, and Demelza did. She was homesick for most of the first year, having never been separated from her family before. Living in a small village hadn't helped her social skills either, and despite her natural charisma, she found it difficult to make friends in the first years of her schooling.
The Quidditch team had never been high on her radar. She was devoted to her studies in order to please her mother, and had never found much time for anything else. It was her grandfather that encouraged her to try out, actually, and even gave her a modest broomstick as a belated birthday present. When she got on the team, he was the first person that she told -- running to the Owlery to write to him before she even ate breakfast that day.
No one could imagine that she would have such raw talent for the game. She had little training or experience, so she didn't immediately excel, but there was a visible spark in her eyes for all to see. It was a shame that she had missed the previous two years. Two years or not, however, she was scouted by two teams during her seventh year -- a team in northern Ireland and the Tutshill Tornados of Wales. She chose to sign on as the reserve for the Tornados, mainly because it was within flooing distance of her family.

Demelza is a natural beauty: clear, pale skin offset by her dark brown hair and lit up by her blue eyes. She's of average height and weight, standing at about 5'7". Her most striking feature? Her eyes. They can be anywhere from an ice blue to a deep blue, depending on her mood, and convey her thoughts and feelings amazingly well. Combined with her other features, she is undeniably pretty, even if she does not recognize that fact.

Demelza is very much a people pleaser. She's apt to put others ahead of herself, which is one of the reasons that she hasn't moved up in rank within the team. She's assertive- even aggressive when provoked, but on a day to day basis? No, not really. That fire only comes out when angry or when playing the game, and in both situations she is best described as being fierce. She's also a romantic, growing up with an idealistic view of the world. Even though her father passed when she was young, Demelza views her parents as having a great love -- being each other's one true love. She wants to have the same, which often leads her into trouble. When she falls for a man, she falls hard. It tends to lead to her being taken advantage of and/or hurt in the long run. Still, through it all, she has remained proud and stubborn, ready to face the world to get to where she's going. Even if she does tend to take the scenic route in getting there.
